EARLY CAREERS EXPERT SAYS:
“We are sleepwalking into a workforce crisis, and the clock is running out”
Helen Eleftheriou, founder of Emerging Talent Partnership, has spent over 20 years inside some of the world’s largest organisations watching this crisis build. She has sat in schools where a careers lead has one thirty-minute break in two weeks, where a student turns down a genuine job offer because the family will lose benefits the moment they start earning, where young people with extraordinary potential have never once met a corporate employer.
Helen says: “I work with employers and young job-seekers, supporting potential at every stage. The talent is there; it always has been. What’s missing is employers willing to invest in young people and the bridge between education and boardrooms needs to be built.”
With over 20 years’ experience leading early careers programmes for global businesses like Rolls Royce and e,on across APAC, EMEA and North America, Helen advises on graduate programmes, apprenticeships and internships aligned to what businesses need. Helen also helps make businesses visible to young people who may never have considered them for employment opportunities, while identifying the potential in candidates that a traditional recruitment process would miss.
Helen says: “Emerging Talent Partnership is unique because it works on both sides, helping businesses build early talent pipelines that reach young people from every background, and working with schools and universities to give students the skills, confidence and employer connections to compete”.
Their programmes have already reached more than 5,000 students across 66 schools, supported by 45 employers who gave their time because they understand what is at stake.
Founder Helen says: “There are currently almost a million young people aged 16 to 24 in the UK who are NEET (not in education, employment or training) and this points to not just a crisis, but a talent pool some employers aren’t even looking at. The businesses that act now will have a pipeline, a succession plan and a workforce ready for the future”.
